Mental Imagery Techniques: Tools for Self-Care, Personal Growth, Education, and Therapy

Mental imagery is what we all do when we imagine how we’ll look in a new outfit; how the garden might turn out if we plant roses over there, and irises over here; how we might perfect our tennis game or diving form; how the cake will taste with a different spice.  Any sensory process we experience in reality can be experienced in imagery. A great deal of research has demonstrated that what we think and imagine has clear physiological effects in our bodies.
We are able to use our imagery processes to relax, to reduce stress, to lower blood pressure, to memorize a speech, to develop our creative and spiritual selves. We can also use imagery to “pump ourselves up” for a sports or arts performance, to get in a tizzy about a special event, or to “give ourselves” a headache.  The more we understand our imagery processes, the more we are able to use them effectively for ourselves, with our family and friends, and with our clients.

In this workshop:
•Basic mental imagery processes will be discussed,
•Theory and research bases will be presented,
•and imagery tools for self-care, learning, growth, and therapy will be demonstrated.

Participants will have opportunities to:
• Experience and apply the tools presented,
• Acquire and apply tools specific to personal and/or professional interests

The program is designed for:
• Mental health professionals
• Healing professionals (doctors, physical therapists, massage therapists, chiropractors) wishing to learn imagery tools for enhancing work with clients.
